Sakar Pudasaini is a social entrepreneur turned nonprofit CPA who understands that behind every spreadsheet is a mission that matters. Before founding Beancount, Sakar spent over a decade as a mission-driven leader, where he built the financial and operational infrastructure needed to scale a shared vision into a reality.
Most notably, he founded and scaled Karkhana, an international education social enterprise that combined direct impact with policy advocacy, serving over 40,000 students and teachers annually. This journey taught him that financial clarity is essential to growth, but it must be achieved in an empathy-driven, people-first way. He knows that for a mission-driven leader, the books aren’t just about compliance they are the roadmap to confident decision making.
Today, Sakar serves as a strategic partner to nonprofit executives, helping them translate complex data into actionable insights. His commitment to the social sector extends beyond Beancount; he currently serves on the board of Community Action Programs (CAP) of Boulder County and as a partner at Social Venture Partners Denver, where he provides pro-bono services to help small nonprofits thrive.
Sakar believes that when organizations achieve financial fluency they can amplify their impact.

Working with Beancount has been like adding a high-level finance department to our small team. For a national organization with regional affiliates their support has been transformational. They reorganized our financial reporting to help our Board execute their fiduciary duties with confidence. As an ED, I now have access to a full range of expertise, from daily bookkeeping to strategic insights, without the overhead of an in-house hire.
Running a retail shop that doubles as a workforce development platform means we’re balancing two worlds! Honestly, we’d be lost without the Beancount team’s technical knowledge when it comes to social enterprises. They totally ‘get’ how our nonprofit mission and retail side need to flow together perfectly. Because of their unique expertise, we’ve been able to bring serious business discipline to our shop’s fundamentals while staying deeply rooted in our community impact
The Beancount team goes above and beyond–they don’t just do our books, they explain them to us. We’re a fiscal sponsor to other orgs and have several programs of our own, so the way they simplify complexity into terms we understand is invaluable. Thanks to Beancount, we have peace of mind knowing we’re fully compliant. Plus they’re a pleasure to work with.
